Integrated Performance Optimization of Higher Education Buildings Using Low-Energy Renovation Process and User Engagement

Building performance improvement through low-energy renovation traditionally involves building diagnostics of the existing building, technology evaluation, selection and implementation. Effective diagnostics, post-retrofit assessment user engagement are essential to deliver as well achieving socio-economic environmental benefits at every stage project life cycle. User’s views often ignored when renovating a causing sub-optimal energy performance, comfort wellbeing. This paper seeks critically evaluate process role stakeholder in strategic implementation retrofit technologies for higher education buildings. The research focuses on methodology, innovative materials/systems end-user throughout phases (pre-renovation, post renovation). A mixed method was adopted, which includes modelling, monitoring evaluation questionnaires pre post-renovation. is part European Union (EU)-funded project, targeting 50% reduction consumption using materials public surveys allow comparative analysis levels satisfaction an indicator efficacy measures. new framework developed. findings suggest that there direct relationship between intervention, improving low-carbon buildings occupants. strategies also appear have different impacts satisfaction.
